The idea for the Tower Zine was incepted by Ariana Reines and members of Invisible College after lightning struck the Washington Monument on Breonna Taylor’s birthday in early June of 2020. At the time, we were reading Thunder Perfect Mind and Plutarch’s writings on Osiris and Isis. The image of lightning striking the obelisk eerily resembles the Tower Card in Tarot, which is as much a card of revelation hitting the skull (such as Moses coming upon the burning bush), as it is of old structures failing/faltering/falling. Our conversations during this period were heavily informed and embued with the protests of the summer stemming from the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor.
